Beer float spotlight: Coconut Porter and coffee ice cream

Coconut Porter shines as a beer float with coffee ice cream

Hot dog it’s hot out there! Since our house didn’t dip below 92 degrees inside over the weekend, we had to cool off with a bit of ice cream + beer = beer floats!

There’s a never ending number of combinations for beer floats. Take anything dark – a stout, a porter – and combine it with a favorite ice cream (preferably something gourmet or homemade). Maui Brewing Company makes this killer Coconut Porter that, surprisingly, doesn’t have too much of a coconut flavor to it. It’s more malty with a hint coffee and chocolate, and a smidgen of bitterness at the end.

There are many options to making a beer float with Coconut Porter, including almond ice cream for your very own Almond Joy (avoid anything with actual almond chunks, we learned out lesson on that one), or coconut ice cream for a super smooth, coconut explosion!

Our favorite match with Maui Brewing Company’s Coconut Porter? Coffee ice cream. Creamy, delicious, and rather than over-powering the beer, it’s a very nice compliment.

If you have kiddos, be sure to pick up some gourmet root beer at Galco’s in Highland Park so they don’t feel left out!
